Emissions from the operations of a building are only part of the real estate industry’s environmental footprint. Decisions made during the design and construction phase of a building can have a huge impact on embodied carbon, or the emissions attributed to manufacturing and transporting construction materials, the process of construction, and building disposal.
The ULI Greenprint Center's recent report, Embodied Carbon in Building Materials for Real Estate, makes the business case for reducing embodied carbon and highlights design strategies and low-carbon materials that can help the industry be more sustainable while also reducing labor and material costs, building time, and construction waste. This event will feature key takeaways from the report and showcase how industry peers around North America are starting to consider embodied carbon in their new developments and future investments.
