    Athletes Village for the Pan Am Games

     

    A Legacy Project on the West Don Lands

     

    Toronto was recently awarded the 2015 Pan Am Games with a projected total investment of $2.4 billion. One of the major components of the Games will be an Athletes Village on the West Don Lands with a budget of $1.0 billion.

     

    This session will outline how the real estate industry can participate in this exciting development and how the West Don Lands will evolve from an Athletes Village to a thriving residential neighbourhood.

     

    Overview of the Pan Am Games

    The Bid Chairman for the Pan Am Games, former Premier David Peterson, will provide an overview of this $2.4 billion event. New venues include a stadium for athletics, indoor velodrome, an Aquatics Centre and two additional 50-metre pools. David will describe the main components of the  Athletes Village and how it will serve as the hub for the entire games.

     

    Update on the West Don Lands

    Waterfront Toronto has completed development concepts and finalized the planning approvals for the West Don Lands. Meg Davis, from Waterfront Toronto, will describe the vision for this precinct and provide background on the current projects in the area.

     

    Process for Developing the Athletes Village

    Waterfront Toronto has the challenging task of providing 2,100 residential units for the Athletes Village in the West Don Lands; while maintaining high quality standards for this important site. John Campbell, President of Waterfront Toronto, will outline the plans and process to deliver the Athletes Village in the context of a legacy community that will serve Toronto in the decades following the Games. The overall session will be moderated by Adam Vaughan, a City of Toronto Councillor and a strong advocate for high quality, sustainable developments. Adam has been involved in the residential developments on the former railway lands in downtown Toronto; and will bring his substantial insight and experience to this important event.

Brookfield Management Services Canada President Dec 1995 – Jan 2000 • Managed the national portfolio of Brookfield and 3rd party clients (approx. 30 million sq.ft. of commercial office space and several hundred Condominiums corporations) • Successfully rolled out Brookfield’s ISO 9002-certified service culture to field offices across Canada • Successfully merged two organizations into one new business unit as Brookfield acquired a subsidiary. Sep 1986 – July 1989 Director of Real Estate Projects and President of Concorde Square Limited • Developed and managed Real Estate assets of the BCE group of companies’ pension funds including office, retail and hotel across Canada. • Negotiated separation from major development partners engaged by previous management and assumed development management. • As President of Concorde Square Limited, on behalf of pension funds, took over the development and management of a large mixed-use office and residential condominium project (Wynford Drive and Don Valley Parkway). This project, costing several hundred million dollars, involved difficult rezoning of an area and development of over one million sq. ft. of office space and over a thousand residential units.
