2024 Toronto Lands Corp TAP

Tapping Into The Peanut! Modernizing the Toronto District School Board school sites at The Peanut

Ontario legislation in 2023 set the direction for prioritizing the use of surplus and underutilized school board properties to meet other Provincial priorities such as child care, affordable housing and long-term care. Toronto Lands Corp (TLC), a subsidiary of Toronto District School Board (TDSB), approached ULI Toronto to convene a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) to explore ways to modernize and optimize the use of TDSB sites through site design, collaborations and partnerships.

Using North York’s The Peanut as a model site, ULI’s group of land use, design and financing experts came up with two concepts for the Peanut as a Hub and Connected Community Anchor, with principles and recommendations for TLC/TDSB to consider.
