DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION CHAIR
The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Reconciliation Committee (now DEIR Council) was launched in November 2019 and is now an active part of ULI Toronto’s work in addressing issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation in city building and furthering our responsibility to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.
The committee plays a unique dual role within ULI Toronto as a resource (support role) in bringing a diversity, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation lens to the work of our local District Council leadership; and as a catalyst (lead role) in organizing and delivering initiatives, programs and events to achieve its own mission.
The Mission of the DEIR Council is driven by four key activities: `
Our DEIR Committee is working hard to establish an DEIR Action Plan for the upcoming year based on priorities that emerged from our annual strategy session in June 2020, including: new events, roundtables and workshops focused on EDI issues; new mentorship programs for equity-seeking groups; commitments to inviting new panelists and speakers with diverse perspectives to all ULI programs; changes to the composition and operation of ULI Toronto’s governance and committees to reflect the diversity of our city; and many more.
