Phase 2 – Focus for 2022
ULI-FIG City By-Design Uptown Brampton Transit-Oriented Communities Implementation Plan: A renewed grant through the Washington DC-based Urban Land Institute’s Curtis Infrastructure Initiative, has enabled ULI Toronto & FIG to pursue “Year Two” of this effort, with a focus on developing best practices for implementing TOC through various lenses, with an active and evolving case study at the Uptown Brampton TOC precinct. Chaired by the University of Toronto School of Cities Infrastructure Institute, the next series of workshops are designed to help drive success to Brampton’s “Living Plan” collaborative model. 8 sessions will take place over 10 months with a report to follow in November 2022, covering:
- ‘Living Plan’ Collaborative Model – accelerating and enhancing TOC implementation
- Design-in Social Equity – delivering urban community hub and walkable mixed-income neighbourhood
- Unlock Transit – integrating terminals, humanizing arterials and delivering complete streets
- Create Value for Public Good – leveraging developments and attracting investments
- Climate Ready TOC – integrating environmental sustainability and resiliency
- Diversifying Economy – creating innovation and cultural clusters
- Expanding the Public Realm – sustaining community with a common ground
- Wrap-up: City By-Design TOC Implementation Plan – an integrated ‘living’ implementation plan to deliver TOC
This report explores the approaches Brampton has taken to help different stakeholders work together to deliver a successful and vibrant transit-oriented community, documenting emerging best practices and the challenges that remain.
On April 5, 2023, ULI Toronto, the Future of Infrastructure Group and leaders in infrastructure and development shared emerging best practices from the Brampton, Ontario TOC in progress with close to 350 attendees. Watch as they discuss how TOCs can create legacies for 100 years from now, and how to ensure the decisions made now foster community-level transformation and address the social, health, economic, and environmental outcomes we need now and in the future.
