Tracking Historical Black Displacement in Toronto
The overall project goal of the “Tracking historical Black displacement in Toronto” project is to identify and understand how anti-Black racism in Toronto has impacted access to housing, the ability to establish a permanent geographic presence and displacement of the Black populations in Toronto and the region. This will be done by exploring the historical Black settlement patterns, movement and housing tenure.
Project Outcomes:
• Define and describe the historical and present-day problems/challenges facing the Black population’s access to housing and settlement.
• Develop and identify holistic possible solutions, including, but not limited to, housing and infrastructure policy, real estate and financial practices, and zoning rules.
• Work to implement those solutions across political, industry and community domains.
