We are very pleased to report that out of 149 submissions received from universities across the United States and Canada, a collaborative submission from three local universities has received an Honourble Mention in the 2013 Hines Competition. The team was the only Canadian team of the 13 teams acknowledged for an Honourable Mention. The team was made up of five students completing their masters’ degrees in four different disciplines.
ULI Toronto congratulates the following students:
Christina Giannone: Master of Business Administration candidate from the Schulich School of Business at York University, with a specialization in Real Estate & Infrastructure. She is also the Project Coordinator at FRAM Building Group.
Evan Truong: Master of Planning (Urban Development) candidate from Ryerson University. His master’s program research envisions the potential future growth (development concepts, built form, as well as height and density intensification and its implications) of Spadina Avenue (specifically Chinatown).
Dan FitzGerald: Master of Planning (Urban Development) candidate from Ryerson University. His master’s program research focuses on identifying best-practice grey field redevelopment strategies for large shopping malls in downtown cores, and specifically proposing a mixed-use complete community in Chatham-Kent’s downtown core.
Dorna Gorashi: Master of Architecture candidate from Ryerson University. Her thesis aims to shape public space in Toronto’s downtown core, defined by architecture-as-surface, placing it within the existing and complex fabric of urban networks and objects.
Richard Valenzona: Master of Landscape Architecture candidate at the University of Guelph. His thesis is exploring the notion of shared space and its potential implementation on Downtown Yonge Street.
