On Wednesday June 22nd, 2016, Toronto’s Urban Land Institute and its Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) will host a signature event to celebrate this year’s WLI Championship Team. The event will be held at the McCarthy Tétrault Toronto office, beginning at 5:30 pm.
The WLI Championship Team highlights each member and their exceptional leadership and skill in real estate development and land use disciplines, dedication to building thriving communities across the Toronto Region, and capacity to inspire others in the industry. Each Championship Team member is a champion in her own right in the Toronto Region’s robust and progressive real estate development and land use sector.
The evening will feature a conversation with Janet (Jan) De Silva, President & CEO of Toronto Region Board of Trade, as she shares her journey in leadership and how she became a role model for women. The conversation will be moderated by Geeta Sheker, Director of the Initiative for Women in Business at Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. We will learn about Janet as she tells both her personal and professional story and shares insight into how she became a great leader.
Janet assumed the role of President & CEO of Toronto Region Board of Trade in January 2015. She leads the chamber of commerce for Canada’s largest urban centre, representing the business interests of 12,000 members and 200,000 business professionals across the Toronto Region. Janet has more than 15 years of CEO experience that includes working as the Dean of Ivey Asia, CEO of Sun Life Financial’s business in Hong Kong and Mainland China and more. Highly respected in the business community, Janet was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in 2007.
Geeta Sheker is the Director of the Initiative for Women in Business at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Geeta works to champion the career success and advancement of women. She has created a broad portfolio of programs for women focused on advancing their careers. Prior to joining Rotman, Geeta was Director of General Leadership and Management Programs at The Banff Centre for Leadership in Alberta.
