Membership Dues are going up October 1st
Why is ULI raising dues?
Membership dues are a vital source of funding for operations to achieve the strategic goals and initiatives for ULI. They help support our mission to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.
In recent months, the Global Board has been re-evaluating pricing across the world for market reasonability and equity. Canadian membership dues are currently the lowest in the world, standing at around 40% of U.S. rates. In order to address this issue, a plan on dues increase was developed that will be executed in three phases spread over a four-year period with the ultimate goal of reaching 80% parity with U.S. dues rates.
What is the timing of the dues increase?
The first dues increase will go into effect October 1, 2021. The actual increase will occur at the member’s date of renewal. There are subsequent increases planned for January 2023 (to align with Toronto’s Spring Meeting) and July 2024, with the intention to evaluate timing based on membership response.
What if I recently joined or renewed my membership?
If you joined before October 1, you will not be subject to the new rate until the end of your membership term. If you were up for renewal prior to October 1, you will renew at the prior rate. If you are up for renewal on October 31 or after, you will be renewed at the new rate.
If you were up for renewal prior to October 1, but your membership lapsed, you will rejoin at the new rate.
Can I renew early?
If you are up for renewal on or after October 31 and choose to renew before October 1, you will renew at the prior rate. You can renew at any point in your current term by going to my.uli.org and clicking on “Renew My ULI Membership Now”. Members enrolled in autorenewal and monthly instalments can also elect to extend membership at the current
Why Join ULI?
One of the staff members at ULI Toronto came to speak at Ryerson University. And I just thought you know this is a great way to network and to meet people and to learn more about my city as well because they put on such great programming. To me, ULI’s been a crucial part of my career development. Four years ago, in Kensington Market there was a ULI walking tour, where I met a senior city planner, and we developed a strong working relationship. That’s the great thing about ULI, is the opportunity to be with like-minded people in, in the industry. I’ve personally hired people from running into them at ULI and led to a conversation and it grew into an opportunity to join our company. There are just so many opportunities for people of all ages to get involved as volunteers, or just to attend the events and get involved. What’s great about ULI is that there’s that someone you’ve been wanting to meet, you haven’t had the opportunity to do so, the roster of members is open, take a look at who the members are, if that person is on the list, ask one of the ULI staff and they will make the introduction. Conversations are happening. Everything from the technology side of the business and incorporating you know, new tech into development and urban planning. That’s rare to have that kind of an entity that’s been convened conversations from a whole variety of perspectives, so that we can kind of push and challenge each other to think a little differently about the solutions that might make a lot of sense. Now that I’ve been a part of ULI for seven years, I’m not a volunteer for ULI. I hardly go by without going to an event and not knowing one person and sometimes I actually find that there isn’t enough time during the network portion of an event to talk to everybody that I know there. Join ULI to connect with people in the industry, to grow your career, and to give back.
