One of the staff members at ULI Toronto came to speak at Ryerson University. And I just thought you know this is a great way to network and to meet people and to learn more about my city as well because they put on such great programming. To me, ULI’s been a crucial part of my career development. Four years ago, in Kensington Market there was a ULI walking tour, where I met a senior city planner, and we developed a strong working relationship. That’s the great thing about ULI, is the opportunity to be with like-minded people in, in the industry. I’ve personally hired people from running into them at ULI and led to a conversation and it grew into an opportunity to join our company. There are just so many opportunities for people of all ages to get involved as volunteers, or just to attend the events and get involved. What’s great about ULI is that there’s that someone you’ve been wanting to meet, you haven’t had the opportunity to do so, the roster of members is open, take a look at who the members are, if that person is on the list, ask one of the ULI staff and they will make the introduction. Conversations are happening. Everything from the technology side of the business and incorporating you know, new tech into development and urban planning. That’s rare to have that kind of an entity that’s been convened conversations from a whole variety of perspectives, so that we can kind of push and challenge each other to think a little differently about the solutions that might make a lot of sense. Now that I’ve been a part of ULI for seven years, I’m not a volunteer for ULI. I hardly go by without going to an event and not knowing one person and sometimes I actually find that there isn’t enough time during the network portion of an event to talk to everybody that I know there. Join ULI to connect with people in the industry, to grow your career, and to give back.
