WLI RESET 2024: Creating an Inclusive Culture in City Building
About WLI and Reset:
RESET emerged in the wake of the pandemic as a responsive initiative to bridge the widening gap faced by marginalized populations due to COVID-induced restrictions. This series stands as a symbolic symposium, a convergence of myriad minds from diverse sectors, aimed at sharing profound lessons learned, amplifying the visibility of these marginalized groups, and collectively formulating best practices. The primary objective is the continual pursuit of forging more equitable and inclusive communities.
ULI’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) is proud to host their annual RESET Event in May 2024. Aiming to shift perspectives and see our communities through other viewpoints, WLI has curated an evening to highlight the experience of those marginalized within our community – both newcomer professionals and those with disabilities – and the lessons city builders can learn. As a member of these groups, how easy or difficult is it to find your way around the City? How are living spaces designed for different family and ability types? How can we design a more inclusive culture in our public spaces, and in our retail offerings? Drawing from these diverse perspectives, the event intends to ignite a reevaluation among city builders on how to design not just a more equitable city, but one that embraces the enjoyment of all its users.
We will bring together experts to kick off the event and set the stage and then break into “Hackathon” groups to explore and expose attendees to new ways of thinking about ability and culture. These groups will be led by Co-Conspirators with expertise in areas such as wayfinding, architecture, disability inclusive design, and public realm.
