As Toronto grapples with COVID-19 (along with cities and regions the world over), city builders are considering its potential impacts on urban density, housing, work, mobility and neighbourhoods in the future.
Presented by the Ryerson City Building Institute in collaboration with the Urban Land Institute Toronto, the “Future of Cities” discussion series brings together notable urbanists and Ryerson academics for insightful discussions of how this global pandemic will change the way we live.
First Session: Future of Density
Speakers:
Ken Greenberg, Principal, Greenberg Consultants
Murtaza Haider, Professor, Ryerson University
Moderator: Cherise Burda, Executive Director, City Building Institute, Ryerson University
Recent years have seen the rapid rise of urban density, motivated by policy and consumer preference for vibrant urban living. But given the necessity of social distancing to curb COVID-19, will this trend towards intensification continue or swing back to outward development? Is there a balance between “tall or sprawl” that fosters livable, healthy neighbourhoods? What is the future of density in Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe?
This webinar is free and open to all on a first-come, first served basis. It will be recorded and made available to watch on demand at knowledge.uli.org.
