New Changes In Leadership and Growing Presence on the Global Stage

TORONTO (July 18, 2016) – Urban Land Institute (ULI) Toronto is proud to announce several new changes in leadership on their management committee, as well as the appointment of district council members to the global ULI network. Derek Goring will serve as the new Chair of ULI Toronto, while Emma West will be the new Vice Chair, and Chair of Mission Advancement. Rob Spanier, who recently completed his two-year term as Chair of ULI Toronto, will now continue his strategic leadership of ULI Toronto as the new Chair of the Governance Committee.
The Urban Land Institute aims to provide leadership in responsible land use to create sustainable, livable and prosperous communities through its global network of over 38,000 members. ULI Toronto is currently one of the fastest growing ULI district councils, with over 1500 members.
Two ULI Toronto District Council members, Mark Noskiewicz, former Chair of ULI Toronto, and Leslie Woo, former co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) were recently appointed as ULI Trustees, the highest leadership level for ULI globally. The Trustees are responsible for representing and serving as the voice of the broad and diverse membership in substantive matters facing ULI in the execution of its mission. Mark and Leslie were nominated by the ULI chairman, board of directors and the ULI foundation. “The global recognition at the Trustee level of two members of the ULI Toronto District Council not only reflects the success of their professional achievements but also the growing impact the Toronto region has at the global stage,” says Richard Joy, Executive Director of ULI Toronto.
About Derek Goring, Chair ULI Toronto District Council
Derek Goring was formerly Vice Chair of Mission Advancement for the ULI Toronto District Council Management Committee, and is currently Vice President, Development for First Gulf Corporation, part of the Great Gulf Group. Derek is responsible for leading the development of East Harbour, a 60-acre site just east of downtown Toronto, which when fully developed will include approximately 12 million square feet of office and retail space connected to a new multi-modal transit hub. Derek has also had 10 years of experience in the public sector, most recently as the Senior VP of Land Development for Infrastructure Ontario, and previously as the Director of Development at Waterfront Toronto.
About Emma West, Vice Chair of ULI Toronto District Council
Emma West was formerly the Co-Chair of the Women’s Leadership Initiative for the ULI Toronto District Council and is a former co-chair of ULI Toronto District’s Mentorship program. She is currently a Partner at Bousfields Inc., one of Ontario’s leading planning firms that has been involved in many prominent projects across the region. At Bousfields, Emma draws on over 18 years of experience in land use and environmental planning, across Canada and internationally, to lead projects for public and private sector clients at a variety of scales, from regions down to site plans. She has expertise in planning approvals and acted as an Expert Witness for the Ontario Municipal Board.
